Core-6-201.13, C: Floor and Wall Junctures, Coved, and Enclosed or Sealed >>> Observed the floor and wall juncture on one wall of the mop closet to have missing cove base and a rotting wall at the floor juncture, and also cove base in disrepair, creating a large gap (full of debris). Discussed replacing the cove base. Coving and sealing of the floor/wall junctures is required to provide a surface that is conducive to water flushing. A smooth, easily cleanable floor surface will allow water to properly drain, thereby preventing pooling which could attract pests such as insects and rodents or contribute to problems with certain pathogens such as Listeria.
